WikiScuba the online diving encyclopedia is alive!
Wikiscuba is a project to create a free, complete and up to date Scuba Diving Reference Guide. It is a fully collaborative project between wikidivers from around the world.
The current wikiscuba project originates from the fusion of two independent projects. One was started in November 2005 by Charles at wikiscuba.org. Inspired by wikitravel, it aimed at creating a complete scuba diving travel guide. The second project was started by Andy in January 2006, at wikiscuba.com, and was inspired by two sites, Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, and also Wikitravel, the world-wide travel guide. The two projects were merged in February of 2006 to create the current wikiscuba project, now available under both wikiscuba.org and wikiscuba.com, as well as the .net extension.
Wikiscuba is an attempt to build a completely free and open reference guide for scuba diving, including;
- equipment guides and reference materials
- science and physics of diving
- international diving sites
The aim is to present a factual and objective resource for all scuba divers around the globe. Our copyleft license means that the facts within Wikiscuba are available to all, for free.
The software we use for this wiki is Wikimedia, the same used by wikipedia and wikitravel, which lets any internet reader create, update and edit and illustrate any article on the website. Everyone and anyone can contribute information to the website as long as it complies with our Wikiscuba:Neutral point of view policy. The more people that contribute, the more complete the reference guide.
